Exchange semester to Hawaii Pacific University
As part of my exchange semester in Hawaii, I chose courses that reflected my interest in people, culture and how we interact.
Intercultural Communication and Cross Cultural Psychology gave me valuable insight into how culture shapes the way we think, act and communicate. These perspectives helped me better understand both everyday interactions and the complexity of working across cultural boundaries. In Persuasion, I learned how influence works through language, media and context. This is something I find especially relevant when thinking about communication, engagement and change. I also took Introduction to Sociology and Social Sustainability and Social Work, which offered a broader understanding of social systems and how we can create solutions that support both communities and organizations in the long term.
These courses were an important part of what made my exchange so rewarding.
Beyond the classroom
My exchange semester in Hawaii was not only about academics. Outside the classroom, I made the most of the opportunity to explore, connect and grow in new ways.
I spent a lot of time hiking and experiencing the island’s nature. I also explored local culture and everyday life, which gave me a deeper understanding of the place beyond what a textbook can offer.
Just as important were the new friendships and connections I made with people from all over the world. These experiences taught me the value of being open, adaptable and curious, qualities that continue to shape how I relate to others and approach new situations.
